Hello, friends, and welcome to entry two of my trash to treasure series! If you missed the first post yesterday – girl, make sure you have a read. It’s a really handy hack for upcycling old conditioner pots into faux cement plant pots. And it’s just as cute as it sounds.
However, if you’re new around here, allow me to catch you up! Trash to treasure is a little series I do here on my blog wherein I share easy ways to upcycle trash into cute and practical home decor items. It’s a fun time! For today, we are looking at what you can do with old candle jars: turn them into super cute DIY planters!

This craft was so easy and took about five minutes from end to end. Plus, it’s a great excuse for me to treat myself to fancy candles in the future. If anything, they’re investments for my plant babies. And we all know how much I love those.
So if you over-indulged in candles over Christmas, or were just gifted an inordinate amount, and are left thinking: what do I do with all these old candles? Let me share how to give them a new lease on life.

Tips for crafting:
- I grow a lot of plants hydroponically, so I had a cutting ready to move to semi-hydro in LECA. You could just fill the jar with water and propagate plants in it.
- If you want to fill the pot with soil, just drill a hole for drainage in the bottom of the pot.
To tell you the truth, I am honestly pleased as punch with how this craft turned out! Not only was it inexpensive (technically it was free as I had everything already) but it turned out so cute.
As an avid plant collector – some may say obsessive but they’re no fun at parties – I am forever on the hunt for cute plant pots. However, they’re eye-wateringly expensive. Like, so expensive. So whenever I come across an achievable DIY option, my little heart soars.

I never thought about doing this before but it makes perfect sense! The jars that candles come in are often quite pretty and decorative so this is a great idea. Thanks for the reusable inspiration!
